what diarrhea
It sure sounds like celiac disease, or gluten intolerance. I don’t understand what your doctor means by “flat” but flattened villi are usually indicative of celiac disease. Low vitamin D and iron supports the diagnosis. If your doctor can’t assure you of another diagnosis, you should try a gluten free diet for 3 or more [...]
What else besides parvo could make my puppy vomit and have diarrhea? GET TO A VET NOW!!! Get off the computer and call the vet. If you wait, your dog could die. Only your vet will be able to tell for sure what is going on. Even if the puppy seems OK right now, there [...]
Loose Bowels
It may not be Pavro, it could just be that he ate something toxic, but regardless of what is wrong with him, you need to take him to the vet RIGHT AWAY!!!! That would have been the first thing i did in the morning.
Doesn’t sound like Parvo to me, but it does sound like he may have ate something toxic or indigestible.
Here’s a link that talks about diarrhea and vomiting and when your dog should be taken to a vet: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1571&articleid=265
Since he’s both vomiting and has diarrhea, I would recommend taking him to the vet to get checked out just in case, some of these things are best treated early.
Coronavirus is the first thing that comes to mind, but there is a list of possibles about as long as your arm. Give your vet a ring and see what they have to say.
I’m sure some people will say “No, its ok”, but its never ok when a puppy vomits over and over again. Never. He could also have eaten something toxic, or have an obstruction.
Vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy–these are all symptoms of something that needs to be looked into. If you want to be a responsible pet owner, take your puppy to your vet.
I have a three month old labrador retriever puppy at home who is still alive and well after a similar experience with vomiting and diarrhea. I completely understand your worries, and your looking for some comfort and reassurance. My puppy, on her second night at home, had a vomiting jag in the middle of the night. The next day was Sunday and instead of plunking down $400 for an emergency vet visit, I watched her like a hawk — if she had thrown up again I would have taken her in immediately, despite the expense. But after a long nap she was chipper, ate a bit, and was drinking plenty of water. About three weeks ago, she threw up her water — she has spit up on occasion after drinking too much too fast — and had diarrhea. I called the vet and they said I could bring her in or withhold food and see how she was. I stayed home, withheld food, and she turned out to be just fine. I call my vet almost weekly with questions and I am probably overprotective as a single first-time dog owner.
So, point is, yes, it’s good to be a responsible pet owner and go to the vet when your puppy is sick but it’s not always the worst-case scenario. And puppies eat lots of things they shouldn’t and sometimes they just need to get those things out of their system and there’s not a lot the vet can do.
I really hope your puppy is doing better and that everything checks out okay at the vet.
